Tracks Safaris have travelled the world with our own children and they have been to Africa many times – so we are very experienced in the art of travelling with children of all ages and understand the logistics. Africa is a fabulous destination for families and we have many lodges and camps which offer babysitting, swimming pools, family tents and interconnecting rooms, and with dedicated children’s activities and safaris.

If you are travelling with a larger family or friend group then there are smaller camps and safari houses which cost very little more to take over the whole camp or house – giving your group privacy and exclusivity. Depending on your budget, group size and preferences you can choose from a small group or private road safari around Kenya and Tanzania staying at lodges with swimming pools right up to exclusive safari houses with private butlers, your own cook and private safari vehicles/guides. And lots of choice inbetween!

We have family accommodation all over Africa offering a huge variety of activities to suit every family member and every age. Try your hand at horseriding, canoeing, white water rafting, embark on a camel safari in northern Kenya or learn to be a Masai warrior for a week – the possibilities are endless.

If your family is up for an adventure we can recommend a small group family adventure to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Kenya or Tanzania with time for relaxation on a beautiful Indian Ocean beach at the end. For older children a safari to Tanzania taking in the Ngorongoro Crater, Rift Valley and the Serengeti is perfect with your own vehicle with private professional driver guide to give you the maximum of flexibility with some time on Zanzibar or staying in a unique treehouse room on Mafia Island at the end.

A self drive option works very well for many families and we recommend Namibia and South Africa for sheer variety and family friendly accommodation. Self drive also keeps your costs down and we can offer you vehicles with camping equipment, small guest houses and boutique family run hotels, and family friendly safari tents or lodges.

You may wish to concentrate on one particular activity during your African holiday such as horse riding or kayaking or combine a number of different activities into your holiday. Or learn new skills such as diving or cooking. Cultural interaction may be top of your list – visiting a school, experiencing a homestay or meeting local people or walking with Masai.

A safari is fun, educational and exhilarating for the whole family and we appreciate that all family members are different and you may be working with a diverse range of interests. There are a number of questions we will ask you and the more information you give us the easier it will be to help you plan your family’s perfect safari.

The first step is to call us and let us know when you would like to go, where you would like to go, which type of accommodation would suit you best. An idea of your budget would be useful. Most importantly, let us know the ages of the children travelling and what is important for your family and your interests and any activities you would like to incorporate – and we will use our experience and expert knowledge of Africa to offer you the best options and recommendations based on that information.

Initially we will offer you a number of options for you to consider and would be happy to discuss each option with you fully on the telephone and answer all your questions. You might like to consider ‘malaria free’ options for example – which would whittle your choices down to South Africa and more specifically, the eastern Cape, Garden Route, Kwazulu Natal and National Parks such as Madikwe but still give you a huge variety of options and choices.

Once you have decided on your ideal itinerary we will check availability, get the accommodation on hold for you and at that stage take a deposit for your holiday. We can arrange both internal and international flights and any road transfers to link up your chosen accommodation to make a package. And if we purchase the international flights for you, we can ATOL bond your safari for you. Leaving you to look forward to your family adventure of a lifetime!
